A little bit about me
I’m a Transracial adoptee from South Korea living in the Midwest. I was adopted and raised by a white family in a predominantly white environment. This was difficult for me when it came to the issues surrounding racism and being able to claim my identity. I aim to bring awareness to the fact that adoptive parents aren’t given the proper education on the trauma International adoptees suffer from when being removed from their familial, linguistic, and cultural background. We live divided between the white environments we were raised in and appearing a race that we don’t fit in with, often leaving us feeling isolated and unable to live authentically. Therefore, I write stories to help me process everything I’m navigating through and hope to transform the way adoptees are depicted in society by creating truthful narratives that will, hopefully, build a world where understanding and change are possible.
